The best thing about having a child is that I can sit down to play with him. He is well over the rattle shaking, bleeping rabbit toy squeezing period now, yet I manage to avoid the sand box most of the time (you can throw stones at me, but I can’t stand the sand box) however I am ready to occupy myself with other games, sometimes so much that I am kind of pissed off when my child, who reasonably has a shorter attention span, stops an activity in which I am completely absorbed, like playing with Lego or assembling a puzzle.
And since I realized that any indoor games can be converted into outdoor games they ceased to be seasonal. We draw with color pencils on the terrace, play with matchboxes on the playground and play a memory game on the beach. Because the memory game is such a thing that the more you play the more you like it. Wherever we go, it is usually me who packs everything, so it is no wonder indeed that a box of memory game happens to jump into the bag even when leaving for a beach holiday. Because he likes scrutinizing the cards, stacks them endlessly, builds a tower from them and sometimes he is even ready to play it properly.
„It is a little bit rough to use it as a beach toy” said my friend, but of course she is just jealous that it wasn’t her idea first, although she has a big family, should have had enough experience. All right, I am not saying, that a king size beach towel or blanket would not be a surplus with this beach memory-game stuff and the paper box might bear the marks of some suncream stained fingerprints occassionally, but I have learned that if you want to feel good with the kid, you have to make everything to make him feel good. I doubt that there is any toy I would not jeopardize in order to keep calmness. Of course it is easy for me as accidentally I have my own memory game what I designed, with 35 pairs, featuring thoroughly-detailed images that can also serve as a clue to additional story telling and it appeals with enough chick-style to charm my little girl relatives, but on the other hand displays enough transporting vehicles to catch the attention of boys as well.
And in the evening, when the little krampus fell asleep, we sit down to the camping table on the terrace, he gives me a glass of wine, and we play it properly.
