I enjoyed making rosettes when I was a child. To tell you the truth I enjoyed doing all sorts of crafts so I liked making rosettes too. Naturally I wanted to try a different style every year, since fashion is fashion even if we only talk about rosettes. And doing the same thing twice – there’s nothing exciting about that at all. So I made tiny, big, narrow, wide, crocheted, bent and classic style rosettes, even one of beads. Then I grew up and showed an interest in all sorts of things except for rosettes.
Up until now, when one of my customers suggested that I should make a rosette-badge. I wouldn’t say the possibility immediately excited me, but the thought settled itself in my mind and suddenly the idea was born: let the new star of the Month series be the hussar girl!
The badges are already finished – there are two versions. For those who prefer less traditional style there is a classic simple badge with the hussar girl. And for those who prefer the more traditional rosette shape I made it with the national tricolour ribbon. I’m very curious about how this will be received, I definitely enjoyed painting it. While working on it I really grew to like the hussar girl, so besides the badges I made ringbinder notebooks and pocket notebooks with this motif. These will be available all through the year, I think they’re ideal as a souvenir, for tourists or if you go abroad and would like to take some sort of Hungarian gift with you – which is not red paprika powder. 😉
So if you want a bit more modern rosette, you need some souvenirs or simply because you just have fallen in love with the hussar girl, come to Paloma (1053 Budapest, Kossuth L. u. 14-16. open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays from 11AM to 7PM.) or click here to get it right now!
I made two designs on the topic. I was hesitating for days which one to paint, the girl or the boy?
Finally I chose the girl but I plan to paint the boy next year. What do you think?
