What’s for dinner?

I know that some people start to plan the Christmas menu right now. They are searching for recipes, creating Pinterest album named Christmas, doing test cooking. But at least they are planning the shopping day when they buy every ingredients for the never-falling Christmas menu. Well, this is not me! (unfortunately)

You already know that basically I am a planner type but becaue of the Christmas fair at Vörösmarty Square I don’t have the chance to start planning the menu weeks before Christmas or do long preparations for the dinner. Usually I find out something in the last few days, something fast and a bit festival meal and I prepare it. This year I have the plan a bit earlier because recently I talked to my friend, Fatima, who told me that last year she had made star-bell-snowflake shaped bites for Christmas in different tastes and with cool serving. I liked the idea maybe this year we will have the same on the Christmas table. But we still have time before 23rd December 😉
Anyway in my family we didn’t have the same, traditional menu every year: fish, stuffed cabbage, bejgli. My mother didn’t like fish, so she never made it. We didn’t miss it too much, we also didn’t like it. Instead of the fish she made somehing extra (OK, call it festival) stuffed-fried meat. With stewed red cabbage because everybody liked it. Of course huge amount of food was made, we were eating it for 3 days.

We were not traditional in the pastry choice too, we didn’t have bejgli, but we had napoleon and other creamy pastries. They looked like the confectionery cakes but my mother made them, and they were much much more delicious than the others from the shop. I was mad of them although basically I prefer cookies. Things have changed a bit, nowadays she makes bejgli for us filled with poppy seed, walnut and chesnut.

Not to forget the mousserings and the Christmas fondants on the Christmas tree (filled with jelly, do you remember?) The mousserings were not long-life we ate them quickly. Till the end of the celebration remained the fondant for the „pauper times”. We only ate them because we were children and we ate everything sweet. Now looking back, well… I don’t really understand. Anyway our christmas tree was full of empty fondant papers at the end of December.
Maybe that’s why in my adulthood I didn’t have fondant on my Christmas tree for a long time. In general the cover is ugly itself. But some years ago I discovered Stühmer (recommended by my cosmetician)! Since then we have christmas fondantat at Christmas. They make fondnants which are beautiful and delicious. Lots of types are available, all of them are covered with chocolate and made of prime ingredients. (this is not a paid advertisement, this is a devotion from my heart ) And what I especially like, that it is sold by weight. I can buy as much as I like from all the types I want. It doesn’t matter what is my scedule like before Christmas I always buy them in November. I can recommend them very much, my favourite of this year is the eggnog-dark chocolate creation. As I am writing this I have to eat one…
Those who plan in time or those who want to give a present for someone who plan in time I recommend the DesighByRothAniko calendars and notebooks and of course the brand new recipe booklet. All of them are great for a present! I am sure that someone who cookes-bakes regularly or at least is interested in gastro topic will appreciate the confectioner girl recipe booklet. Talking about mothers, bosses, kindergarden teachers, friends… and so on. But you know it better.
If you already know who do you want to give a present for, come and look around in Paloma (1053 Budapest, Kossuth L. st. 14-16. Open: Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday 11 a.m.-19 p.m.) or at Vörösmarty Square in the at 15D stand (until 29th December; every day 10 a.m.-20 p.m.) and at WAMP 18th December in Millenáris B hall (10 a.m.-18 p.m.). And of course you can search online night and day HERE!

Get in the mood, plan, prepare for Chrismas!
