It is strange that even though I am not an inborn inhabitant of Budapest, or rather because of this fact, I am absolutely in love with this city.
Nonetheless it was not my own idea that I might as well paint images of it. Years ago I was approached by a company to design images that would appeal to tourists depicting characteristic street details and atmospheres of Pest. I painted the first two paintings for them, including my up to now favorite piece of this series titled „Dohány street” featuring the trolley bus. I liked this piece, I felt I could grasp something from the city that is only mine, but others could relate to it as well. However the client pouted that he was thinking of something else and our cooperation came to a permanent halt eventually. Nevertheless I fell in love with the idea of making a series about Budapest with the same artistic approach I employed when creating the first two paintings. I simply felt that what I created was good and its rejection irritated me a little bit. I had the first few postcard made out of defiance, I wanted to demonstrate that this kind of envision of Budapest has its own audience too and it can be marketed well indeed. Actually even I was surprised how well it can be done so… I got so many positive responses that I started to design and produce more sophisticated print products very soon after, diaries, agendas, memory games, badges. Encouraged by the success of these I started experimenting with designing bags, tablet cases, kindle and phone cases. Keeping this up I am going to broaden the choices with further surprises this year. Get ready for excitement.
